How we Support Educators

At ATBHK, all of our educational materials are created by Kentucky educators who are deeply committed to honoring the lives and legacies of Black Kentuckians while telling a fuller story of our Commonwealth. Our working groups research archival collections, gather community histories, and partner with local museums and families to collect primary sources and historical information.

Using LaGarrett King’s Teaching Black History framework and aligning each resource with the Kentucky Academic Standards, educators design inquiry-based lessons that center student voice, critical thinking, and the often-overlooked narratives that shape Kentucky’s past and present. Through this collaborative, educator-driven process, ATBHK offers trustworthy, engaging, and culturally grounded tools that support teaching history with depth, integrity, and care in classrooms across the Commonwealth.
